Dartmoor Walking Break
In association with the Dartmoor Outdoor Festival
There’s no better way to immerse yourself in Dartmoor’s majestic beauty than to put on a pair of stout shoes and get out and about on two feet, particularly with an expert guide to lead the way.
To mark the start of this year’s Dartmoor Outdoor Festival, we invite you to join us for a two night Dartmoor Walking Break, at the Two Bridges Hotel.
Your break includes two excellent walks, each led by an experienced and knowledgeable Dartmoor guide who will help you make the most of your time on the moor, creating a truly memorable outdoor experience (and plenty of photo opportunities of course).
At the end of each day, you can look forward to superb three course dinner prepared using some of the best local ingredients of the season, and a well-earned night’s sleep in a comfy and characterful room, before starting the next day the right way with a hearty Dartmoor breakfast.
Wednesday 26th August 2026
Arrive at your leisure, and settle in (your room will be ready from 3pm, but you are most welcome to arrive early and enjoy the hotel facilties). Enjoy a three course dinner from our standard dinner menu, served in the Tors Restaurant, prepared with some of the best local ingredients of the season.
Thursday 27th August
Start the day right, with a hearty Dartmoor breakfast.
Your Dartmoor guide will lead you on a full day's walk on the north moors, leaving the hotel at 10am.
The route will take you from the hotel along the tumbling Cowsic River, past Beardown Farm and out across open moorland to Beardown Tors and beyond, deep into the heart of Dartmoor. The landscapes can appear bleak, but there is a wild beauty here. You'll return along Devonport Leat, which has carried down water from the high moors since the 1790’s. The moorland terrain is irregular and boggy in places.
This walk is 8 miles long, and a packed lunch will be provided.
You'll return to the hotel at around 4pm, leaving you plenty of time to relax and freshen up before enjoying this evening's three course dinner. For an extra special culinary treat, ask about upgrading to our award-winning Signature Menu.
Friday 28th August
After breakfast and check-out, you'll head off at 10am for a half day walk to the beautiful and mysterious Wistman’s Wood.
One of Dartmoor’s most precious habitats is temperate rainforest. This walk takes us round the perimeter of one of these special oakwoods, so fragile that we will admire it from the edge rather than risk damaging it by entering. The twisted oaks are clothed in green moss, ferns creeping along their branches and lichens draped from their twiggy tips. You will learn about this biodiverse habitat and the unusual plants and animals that make their home here. This walk is 3.5 miles long, and you'll be back to the hotel around 1pm. If you're not in a rush to head off, perhaps you'll order a spot of lunch?
