Dartmoor Winter

Our Local area

Some of our favourite things to do and places to go on Dartmoor and in Devon, all within each reach of the Two Bridges Hotel.

Stunning views over Dartmoor

Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor National Park is a paradise for anyone who loves the great outdoors and nature’s beauty. You’ll find 368 square miles of Dartmoor to explore, including some of the highest spots in the British Isles. Great views, craggy granite tors, sparkling rivers and leafy valleys.

Tavistock Pannier Market

Tavistock Pannier Market

Nearby Tavistock is definitely worth a visit when you stay at the Two Bridges Hotel, and the historic and bustling Tavistock Pannier Market in the heart of town is one of the highlights.

Jail Ale

Dartmoor Brewery

If you enjoy fine craft ales, you’ll enjoy a pint of Jail Ale at the Two Bridges hotel, from our sister-company, Dartmoor Brewery.  Dartmoor Brewery is the highest brewery in England, and the team there are utterly committed to brewing top-quality ales, which reflect the spirit of Dartmoor, using the best local ingredients, including pure Dartmoor water. The Brewery isn’t open to the public, but there’s a shop full of Dartmoor ales and gifts for ale-lovers.

Walking to Wistmans Wood

Wistman's Wood

Take a walk from the Two Bridges Hotel to nearby Wistman’s Wood – an amazing and beautiful group of stunted oak trees growing among granite boulders.  The wood covers some 3 hectares, is owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, and is famous for its twisted and weathered dwarf trees, covered in mosses and lichens.  A circular 4-mile walk takes in Wistman’s Wood and the nearby Crockern Tor.

Dartmeet Bridge

Dartmeet

Dartmeet is a simply stunning spot on Dartmoor, and is definitely worth a visit when you stay with us at the Two Bridges Hotel. As the name suggests, Dartmeet is the spot where the West Dart River (which flows gracefully past the Two Bridges Hotel) meets the East Dart River, to form the majestic River Dart.

Dartmoor Prison Museum display

Dartmoor Prison Museum

No trip to Dartmoor would be complete without a visit to Princetown to catch a glimpse of the famous or even infamous Dartmoor Prison. To help visitors understand the story behind the old prison, Dartmoor Prison Museum, situated 250 yards outside the main prison gates, showcases over two hundred years of the history of the Prison.

The Bedford Hotel Front View
